Enough grovelling..on with the post. So by now I’m sure everyone has heard that Britney Spears finally shed all that unsightly and useless weight she was carrying…her husband K-Fed.

What I’m most grateful for is the fact that she turned in her witch-y dark hair for her signature blonde. Really…what was she thinking? I know pregnancy hormones will make you do strange things but does she really have no one around her to take her aside and gently tell her the goth look wasn’t working for her?

Anyway. Thankfully she showed up on David Letterman looking like her old self in her trademark blonde hue.

When people get the itch to change their hair color they often think it has to be drastic in order for it to “count” or make a difference to their appearance. This is just not the case. If Britney was “dying” to go darker she should have chosen a color that complimented her skin tone while giving her an all over new look.

Why in L’Oreal’s name she went such a dark color is beyond me. She should have taken a cue from Sandra Bullock’s fabulous hair color. If you’re going to be a brunette…do it right with some tone on tone highlights scattered in and make sure there’s some sparkle to that brunette.

Red Carpet Updos

Trust Jennifer Lopez to make a grand entrance with style (remember that dress?!) This Oscar hairstyle is my favorite as its creative and glamorous without being over-the-top. I suspect hair extensions are a large part of Jennifer Lopez’s updo as she had her hair cut into a bob not too long ago…but who cares?

To get your own version of this Oscar hairstyle mist damp hair with a Styling Spray and pull back into a tight pony tail. Now take medium sized sections of that pony tail and wrap them around small (but not too small) Velcro rollers. Let your hair either air dry or use the blow drier on the rollers to speed things up. Once dry, carefully unravel the hair sections–try not to disturb them as the less they’re fussed with the easier this will be. Now re-roll each section up again with your fingers and secure each roll to the head with bobby pins. Continue to do this, fanning the rolls out around the base of the pony tail in a circular fashion. Mist with a firm holding hair spray followed by a Shine Spray .

Naomi Watts’s side Chignon (loose bun) is another beautifully stylish Oscar updo. This type of updo works best on hair that is shoulder length or longer with long layers. To get a home version of this Oscar hairstyle blow dry damp hair that had a Hair Thickening Styling Mousse applied. Use your hands to scrunch hair while drying which will boost any natural wave you may have. Once dry, take the back and sides of the hair and place in a loose side pony tail. Don’t get too tight with the elastic, instead wrap the elastic around the hair once or twice and then use bobby pins to secure the elastic to the head.

Now wrap any longer sections around the base of the pony tail, pinning as you go, to create a soft bun. Don’t forget to leave some shorter layers out which can then be touched up with a curling iron. The idea here is a casual chic so don’t fret too much about getting this updo perfect…just make sure you pin it well!

Keira Knightly proves that an Oscar hairstyle doesn’t have to be difficult to achieve. To try this updo at home blow dry long hair that has had a styling cream applied to it. Part long bangs (if you have them) in or near the middle and then pull the rest of your hair back into a low, slightly off center pony tail. Now divide your pony tail into two or three sections, depending on the thickness of your hair, and spiral wrap each section vertically around a medium sized curling iron. Once the pony tail is all curled coat fingers with a
Creme Pomade and gently blend the sections into one large spiral curl. Touch up bangs with a curling iron if necessary and mist your updo with hair spray.

Hairstyle of the Day: Jessica Alba’s Hairstyle

Jessica Alba’s hairstyle is perfect for those who don’t want a lot of length to their hair but can’t bring themselves to go really short. Essentially, this hairstyle is a layered bob with a full bang that is swooped to the side during styling. Jessica’s hairstyle, which will work for both fine or thicker hair, relies on long layers to add volume to the hairstyle.
 

To style this type of hairstyle apply‘> volumizing spray on damp hair and blow dry with a large round brush. Direct layers away from the face and swoop the bang to the side. If you have naturally straight hair touch up the ends with a medium sized curling iron. Finish off with a misting of light hairspray.

Tips For Fine Hair
 

For those with fine hair it can be a daily struggle to get body out of those limp locks but with a few hairstyling tips you can go from flat to fabulous.

1) Layer it properly. Unless you are sporting a short pixie cut don’t make your layers too short. Fine hair tends to want to fall flat if the layers are too short, especially in longer hair. Instead go for longer layers that you can boost with hair products and styling tools.

2)Use volumizing hair products designed specifically to add body to fine hair. Make sure to avoid heavy or thick hair products as they will only weigh fine hair down. Opt instead for volumizing sprays, bodifying mousses or spray gels.

3) Add color to your hair. Having your hair colored “plumps up” the hair stands and gives them more body and grip when styling.

Any blog dedicated to hairstyles just wouldn’t be worth its salt without a nod to one of Jennifer Aniston’s hairstyles. I swear, during my professional career I lost track of the number of times I had a client sit in my chair and utter the words “I want my hair like Jennifer Aniston’s.”

Really, who can blame them. Jennifer’s hairstyles are always amazing and this latest wavy one is truly one of my favorites. Despite the fact that she wore her hair Flat Iron straight for quite a while, Jennifer actually has naturally wavy hair. She is now using what nature gave her to full advantage with this loose and soft hairstyle.

For those with their own natural wavy hairstyles have your stylist add layers starting at the chin. This will free up your waves by taking the weight off of them and allow you to show them off in all their glory.

To style your hair like Jennifer Aniston’s hairstyle use a mousse on damp hair (Jennifer’s stylist uses Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam) and blow dry with a diffuser attachment on your blow drier. Skip using a brush to style and just use your fingers.

If you have straight hair but still want this wavy hairstyle you can cheat by misting damp hair with a spray gel and setting your hair in medium sized Velcro rollers. When hair is dry simply unravel and finger comb gently to separate the waves.
